David Handschuh on 9-11-2001

David HandschuhDavid Handschuh, a photographer for the New York Daily News, rushed to the World Trade Center that sunny New York morning. In this interview with Chris Bull, Handschuh describes the attack, his injury and his rescue from that hellish scene. He also speaks to the lingering effects on journalists who covered 9-11. Handschuh’s photographs accompany the interview.

Handschuh was a member of the first Dart Fellows group selected in 1999. He also is an adjunct photojournalism lecturer at New York University and is a former president of the National Press Photographers Association. Chris Bull, also a member of that first Dart Fellows group, is national correspondent for The Advocate magazine, and is author or editor of several books.
