Handschuh, a photographer for the New York Daily News,
rushed to the World Trade Center that sunny New York morning.

his injury and his rescue from that hellish scene. He also speaks
to the lingering effects on journalists who covered 9-11. Handschuh’s
photographs accompany the interview.
Handschuh was a member of the first Dart Fellows group selected
in 1999. He also is an adjunct photojournalism lecturer at New
York University and is a former president of the National Press
Photographers Association. Chris Bull, also a member of that first
Dart Fellows group, is national correspondent for The Advocate
magazine, and is author or editor of several books.
